Spring 2010 Singles Tournament Recap PDF Print
Written by Mark D

The Spring 2010 Season of the Bangkok Pool League ended in grand style on June 19th at the 8-Ball Tournament.   I think its a great tribute to those people who live and play here that the events experienced  in and around the city during the back half of the season were nowhere in evidence.  Everyone seemed to be really enjoying themselves. Whatever passes for normal in Bangkok seems to be back.

The final standings have now been adjusted to reflect those make-up games that I have in so far.  I still expect some or most to eventually be made up, but none will affect 1st or 2nd place.

As always, we got underway a bit late.  We still managed to fill the 128 person draw rather easily.  In total, there were 192 registered attendees.  We stopped registering people around 6:00, and quite a few more showed up to put the attendance somewhere into record territory.  Not all of the 600+ who played during the season were able to make it, but enough did to make it a great event.

The league donated 82 door prizes, and the participating bars added another 44, bringing the total to 126.  Meaw (Hillary Bar) donated 3 pool cues, and Michael Wong added some interesting artwork.  As always, door prizes are only given to those that are actually there when their name is called.  The last prize, a bottle of J W Black, went to the only person left in the room who had not as yet won one.

In the 6 years that I have been running the league, noone has ever repeated as Champion at any of the 8-Ball or 9-Ball tournaments.  That record remains intact.  This years 8-Ball Singles Tournament Champion was Joe (Hustlers).  He played well and was able to dispatch Ti (Bush Garden) in the final. In the consolation game, O Rayong (Players) was able to beat Kitty (Moonshine) for 3rd place.  My congratulations to all four.

Mac (Country Road) did a great job with the pictures, and they have already been loaded on to the gallery.  Have a look.  I expect more to follow.

The 9-Ball Singles Tournament is tentatively scheduled for August 28th, when we all get to do this again.  The fall season is expected to get underway on August 30th(8-Ball) and Sept 1(9-Ball).  I will contact all existing teams and venues in August in regard to the fall season.  If any other venue is interested in fielding a team, or if anyone is interested in finding a team, please contact me via this website.
