bpl_news.pngPlease be reminded that there will be no league play next week due to the Songkran holiday. Enjoy yourselves, and try to avoid swallowing the klong water. The last regular-season matches will be on Monday, April 21st(8-Ball) and Wednesday, April 23rd(9-Ball). The Playoffs will begin the following week, with the 1st round of 8-Ball playoffs on Monday, April 28th and 9-Ball playoffs on Wednesday, April 30th. All teams will play.

8_and_9_balls.pngIn the Red, Blue, Green, and Tan divisions , the 1st place team will host the 6th place team, the 2nd place team will host the 5th place team, and the 3rd place team will host the 4th place team. The 3 winners will move on to a round-robin tournament to determine the division Champion, and the 3 losers will move on to a round-robin tournament to decide who wins the plate.

The Gold and Slver divisions for both 8-Ball and 9-Ball only have 5 teams, and will be handled differently. The 1st place team will play host to the 2nd place team. The winner is in to the Championship round, and the loser will be back in the draw to play against the 5th place team. The 3rd place team will host the 4th place team. The 3 winners will play in the Championship round, and the 2 losers will square off for the plate. Please note: If the 1st place team beats the 2nd place team in round 1, the 2nd place team will host the 5th place team. If the 2nd place team pulls an upset and beats the 1st place team in round 1, the venue for 1's match with the 5th place team will be the 2nd place team's home venue(that way every team that finishes in the top 3 gets a home game played.)

The Round Robin Tournament: Each team will play twice over the next 3 weeks against the other 2 teams in their group. The venue for each match will be the venue of the team that is not playing that week. If X, Y and Z are the 3 teams, X will play Y at Z, X will play Z at Y, and Z will play Y at X. That way each match between teams that have already been played home and away will be played at a neutral venue that both have already played at.

The Format: The format will be the same as is used for the regular season....8 seperate matches played by at least 4 people. As this is a round-robin event, the team with the most number of games won after all games have been played will be the winner. We are asking each team to play a tiebreaker at the end of their match, regardless of the score, that will only be used in the event of a tie between 2 teams. The tiebreaker should be played as a team. Each team nominates at least 4 people to play a leg each in a race to 3(for both 8-Ball and 9-Ball). No player can play twice until all 4 have played at least once.

The dates: 8-Ball will be played on Monday, May 5th, Monday, May 12th, and Monday. May 26th. (Monday, May 19th is Visakha Bucha day, and many venues will be closed). 9-Ball will be played on Wednesday, May 7th, Wednesday, May 14th, and Wednesday, May 28th.

The League Championship: The 9-Ball season will end with the matches on May 28th. There will be no further play. In 8-Ball. the 6 Divisional Champions will compete in a tournament to determine a League Champion. The venue cannot be decided on until we know who those 6 will be, but it will take place in early June.

Trophies: In both 8-Ball and 9-Ball, trophies will be awarded to the first place team in each division. Trophies will also be awarded to the playoff champion in each division. If the first place team is also the playoff champion, there will be only 1 trophy, but it will be larger, to reflect the greater accomplishment. The plate winner in each division will also get a trophy. I anticipate handing out a lot of trophies at the singles tournament.

Final Divisional Standings: Please note that we are no longer arranging deciding matches for teams that finish with identical records. If a tie exists at any position in the final standings, the winner will be determined by head-to-head match scores between those 2 teams. If the head-to-head is also even, we will then go to games won/games lost records. If neccessary, we will then go to legs won/legs lost records.
