Hello everyone! The current 8-Ball season ended in great style this weekend, and the Fall 2007 season will officially be laid to rest this Saturday, December 1st, at a season-ending singles tournament. The venue will be The Ball In Hand at Times Square, and we are asking people who want to play to be there by 1:00 PM. All trophies will be handed out at the event, and the balance of the league's money will be spent on door prizes. Participating bars will also be offering donations, and we expect to be giving out around 75 door prizes. Those are great odds for going home a winner. Here's how things ended up for the season: YELLOW DIVISION CORNER BAR won the division by a good margin, but was pushed until the end in the playoffs by a very determined Roadhouse team. It was a great match that was not decided until the last game. Corner Bar came away with a well deserved 5-3 win. HAPPINESS won the right to represent the division in the round-robin for the plate. GREEN DIVISION HILLARY BAR, the defending champion, won the division, but had to get past a strong and motivated Rack Em Up team to make it through the playoffs. They succeeded in what turned out to be a closely fought game. SPORTS CORNER won the right to represent the division in the round-robin for the plate. PURPLE DIVISION THE PLAYERS won the division, and kept it up with a solid win over Hideaway . They had to forfeit out of the tournament last season because they did not have enough players. This season they qualified a record 9 people. BUTTERFLY BAR won the right to represent the division in the round-robin for the plate. THE PLATE Happiness, Sports Corner and Buttefly met on Saturday, Nov 24th at Flaming Moe's to fight it out for the Plate. It turned into a great tournament, as all 3 teams showed that the divisions were indeed evenly balanced. In the 1st match, Butterfly Bar had to wait until the 8th game before finally putting away Sports Corner. In the 2nd match, Butterfly Bar had to do the same against Happiness. With only the 8 Ball left on the table, and Butterfly up 4-3, the game was decided by a great pot followed by a scratch. It is impossible for a game to be any closer. The final match between Happiness and Sports Corner saw both teams trying to overcome Butterfly Bar's lead. Neither could, as the match was too well balanced. BUTTERFLY BAR, a team that has come close several times but never won, will receive the trophy for the plate. THE LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP Corner Bar, Hillary Bar and The Players met on Sunday, Nov 25th, at Larry's Dive to fight it out to see which team would emerge as the League 8-ball Champion for the fall 2007 season. The 1st match, between Corner Bar and The Players, went down to the wire in a closely fought contest. The Players came out with a 5-3 victory that was not decided until game 8. The Players then took on Hillary Bar in the 2nd match of the day. It was a great exhibition of quality pool by both sides, and The Players eventually came away with yet another 5-3 win. Corner Bar and Hillary met in the 3rd match, with both teams needing an 8-0 win to keep The Players from walking away with the win. Neither team could pull it off, as both sides were just too evenly matched. THE PLAYERS will be the League 8-Ball Champions for the fall 2007 season. THE SINGLES TOURNAMENT As already stated, the season-ending singles tournament will be held this Saturday at the Ball In Hand at Times Square. Anyone who has played at all in either the 8-Ball or 9-Ball league is invited to attend. The draw will be large enough to accommodate all who show up. There will be a free food buffet, and those that attend will be responsible only for their own bar tabs. The league is coming off yet another great season, and the event is designed to end it on a high note. It will be a competitive tournament held within a party atmosphere. The league is not expected to start up again until mid to late January, so please try to make it. Please note as well that the season-ending 9-Ball tournament will be held on December 8th at the same venue. It will be the last league event of the year.
