FINAL STANDINGS PDF Print

The Spring Season of the Bangkok Pool League came to its conclusion this week.  It was only fitting that a bizarre season should end with some bizarre Week 14 results.  For those new to the league and those that forget the plot every season, the only factor used in the event of a tie at the end of a season is the head-to-head results between the teams involved.  In 8-Ball, games count.  In both 8-Ball and 9-Ball, legs do not count.  If the head-to-head does not decide it, a playoff is held at a neutral venue. The final figures have been loaded on to the site.  Here is a re-cap of how things worked out:

8-BALL

Red Division:   Players A went into week 14 with a commanding lead at 21 points.  They won to end the season anyway, and will get First Place.  Big Mango and Sportsman A went into the final week tied at 16 points.  Both teams ended the season with draws.  Big Mango (17 points) gets the nod for 2nd place because of the head-to-head in games.

Orange Division:  Hustlers went into week 14 with 16 points.  They won, ending the season with 18 points, and will get first place.  Cho Cho Bar went into week 14 with 16 points, but had to play against Hillary Bar (14 Points).  Hillary Bar won, forcing the draw.  Hillary Bar (16 points) gets the nod for 2nd place by virtue of the head-to-head.

Yellow Division:    Sports Academy (20 points) and Bush Gardens (19 points) both entered week 14 needing to win.  Both took care of business.  Sports Academy (22 points) will get first place and Bush Gardens (21 points) will get 2nd place.

Green Division:  Jersey Pub (22 points) went into week 14 with first place already in hand.  Ball In Hand and Moonshine entered the week tied at 17 points.  Ball In Hand needed to beat Jersey Pub at home to stay in 2nd place, and pulled off the win.  Moonshine also won its last match, but Ball In Hand (19 points) will get 2nd place becauseof their head-to-head against Moonshine.

Blue Division: Butterfly Bar (21 points) and Dali (20 points)both entered week 14 needing to win to stay where they were.  Both ended their season with wins.  Butterfly Bar (23 points)  will get first place, and Dali (22 points)will get 2nd place.

523 people have played 8-Ball this season.  169 have played 10 or more times, and 119 have played at least once on 10 or more occasions.

9-BALL

Red Division:  Hustlers A went into week 14 at 10-1, but needed a win to avoid a playoff against Players A, who were at 10-2 and unable to gain ground in a friendly.  Hustlers did what they needed to.  Hustlers A (11-1)  will get first place, and Players A will get 2nd place.

Orange Division:  Sportsman A went into week 14 at 9-2, but needed to win to stay ahead of Cho Cho Bar and Players B, both at 8-3.  Sportsman A (10-2) won, and will get first place.  Players B and Cho Cho Bar each lost, however.  Cho Cho Bar's loss was to Hustlers B, which put all 3 teams even at at 8-4.  Cho Cho Bar is eliminated by virtue of their head-to-head against both Players B and Hustlers B.  Players B beat Hustlers B in a playoff match at Sportsman and will get the 2nd place trophy.

Yellow Division: Bush Gardens and Opium's Den entered week 14 tied at 10-3.  Bush Gardens won its match, but Opium Den was upset by Silver Dollar.  Bush Gardens (9-3) will ger first place and Opium's Den will get 2nd place.

Green Division:  Oasis B and Sportsman B went into the week tied at 8-3, but were scheduled to play against each other.  Sportsman B (9-3) won it and will get first place.  Oasis B (8-4) will get 2nd place.

Blue Division:  Mash entered the week at 8-3, with Butterfly Bar sitting at 7-4 and Country Road 5/7 at 6-4 with a make-up game left to play against Sport 20-2 Ladies.  Mash losty its last match, finishing at 8-4.  Butterfly lost its last match to Sport 20-2 Ladies.  Country Road 5/7 beat Sport 20-2 Ladies the next day to oust Butterfly from Trophy consideration and tie Mash at 8-4.  Mash (8-4) will get first place by way of the head-to-head against Country Road 5/7.  Country Road 5/7 (8-4) will get 2nd place.

9-Ball was a problem all season due to the early drop-out of 2 teams.  It ended well, though, with virtually all divisions being decided in week 14.

SINGLES TOURNAMENT

I will post more on this next week, but the date for the 8-Ball Singles Tournament to end the season is scheduled for July 23rd.  All of the trophies for both 8-Ball and 9-Ball will be given out at this event, and it will signify an official end to the season. All are invited.

The stats through week 11 are now in.  With 3 weeks left in the season, almost all of the divisions are still up for grabs.  One almost gets the impression that the lunatic that sorted the divisions out actually knew what he was doing.  I am missing enough 8-Ball scoresheets and 9-Ball results to keep things a bit confusing, but will re-cap with what I have.  I will be in Bangkok next week to try to hunt down some of the missing results

8-BALL

Red Division:  Players A(17 points), Sportsman A(16 points) and Big Mango(14 points) are all still in trophy contention.

Orange Division:  All 7 teams are still alive with 3 weeks remaining.  Every match will count until the season ends.

Yellow Division:  Sports Academy(18 points) has a 3 point lead over the field.   Only Bush Gardens(15 points) can catch them, but will have to be careful about not being caught from behind by Pickled Liver(12 points), Opium's Den(11 points) or Durty Nelly's(10 points).

Green Division:   Jersey Pub(19 points) has all but clinched the division.  Moonshine(14 points), Sport Corner(13 points) Sportsman D(12 points) and Oasis B(11 points) are all in contention for 2nd, but only Moonshine can still catch Jersey Pub.

Blue Division: Butterfly(17 points) has a 3 point lead over Mash and Dali, both at 14 points, and Country Road 5/7 is just behind with 12 points.

9-BALL

Red Division:  Hustlers (10-1) has the lead at the moment, but Players A (8-2) is still hanging with them.

Orange Division:  Sportsman A, Cho Cho Bar and Players are all even at 7-2, with Hustlers B just behind at 6-4.  The division likely will not be decided until week 14.

Yellow Division: Bush Gardens (9-2) is currently in first place at, but Opium's Den and Silver Dollar are right behind at 8-3.

Green Division:  This division suffered all season due to the loss of 2 teams, but made the most of it.  Sportman B (7-2) is in first place, but can not advance in week 12 as they are playing a friendly.  Oasis B (6-3) is right behind and can tie with a win in week 12.  Sport Corner (5-5) is still alive.

Blue Division:   Country Road 5/7 (6-3) and Mash (6-2) are in first place, with Butterfly (5-4) still in the hunt.

WEEK 9 PDF Print
Written by Mark D
Friday, 27 May 2011

The statistics through week 9 have now been uploaded.  Take a look.  I am currently missing only 5 results in 8-Ball and 11 in 9-Ball.  This has been an unusual season, as the economy and other factors are playing havoc with the schedule.  Since the schedule was printed out and distributed, 7 venues have closed, been sold, or just dropped out.  Some teams have found new homes and some have just moved on.  I am calling teams involved or affected every week in an effort to make sure people know where they are supposed to go.

The changes are:

P S Paradise:  Paradise A for both 8-Ball and 9-Ball are playing their home games out of Pool 13Paradise B for both 8-Ball and 9-Ball is now Country Road 5/7, and is playing out of The Country Road in the Soi that runs between Sukhumvit Soi's 5 and 7.

Target dropped out in 8-Ball and was replaced by Dali

Beavers dropped out of 9-Ball, along with Target.  No replacement teams have been found, so whoever is scheduled to play Target is being matched up with whoever is scheduled to play Beavers

Supercue Kamui in the Orange Division of 9-Ball has been replaced by Hustlers B.  Hustlers in the Red Division is now Hustlers A

Supercue Riley in the Red Division of 9-Ball dropped out.

New Wave dropped out last week, so I will be having friendlies for the next 5 weeks between the teams scheduled to Play Supercue Riley and the teams scheduled to play New Wave.

Sin Bin has opted to drop out for the balance of the season and forfeits will be awarded.

The Pickled Liver will be closing its doors before the season ends, but arrangements have already been made to have them playing away games.

Confused?   So am I.

The pictures from the 9-Ball singles Tournament that started this season have finally been loaded on to the picture Gallery. Sorry for the delay.  Enjoy.
