WEEK 14 WRAP-UP PDF Print
Written by Mark D
Saturday, 15 November 2008

8_and_9_balls.png Last week saw an end to the regular season.  I will hold off on updating the site until all of the scoresheets are in.  A few are still outstanding.  A few of week 14's matches were postponed due to Loy Kratong, and a few postponed matches need to be played before I can do the final update for the season.  Here is where we currently stand:

Trophies: All trophies for the season will be awarded at the 8-Ball Singles Tournament on Saturday, December 6th, and the 9-Ball Singles Tournament on Saturday, December 13th.  Both tournaments will take place at The Ball In Hand on Soi 4.

8-BALL

The first and second place teams will meet in a playoff tournament to determine a league champion for the fall 2008 season.  The venue will be POOL 13 on Sukhumvit Soi 13.  The tournament will take place on Sunday, November 30th, with a 2:00 PM start.  It will be a good day of quality pool, and all are invited to attend.

Red Division: Metro Bar finished first.  Det 5 edged out Oasis 1 and Sports Academy in week 14 to finish in 2nd.

Blue Division: The Players finished first.  Bully's Pub came in 2nd.

Green Division:  New Wave and Hillary Bar went into week 14 tied for first place.  Hillary Bar drew with Pool 13, but New Wave won its match to capture first place in the division.  Hillary Bar gets 2nd.

Brown Division: Corner Bar finished first in the division. The race between Oasis 2 and Old Other Office for 2nd place went down to the wire, but a strong week 14 win by Oasis 2 gave them the edge.

9-BALL

This has been the most competitive season the league has ever had, with many races going down to the wire.  The 4 Divisional Champions have been decided, but only 2 of the 4 2nd place finishers have been determined thus far.  There will be no playoffs in 9-Ball.

Red Division: The Players won the Division.  Hillary Bar and Pool 13 went into week 14 tied for 2nd.  Pool 13 won its match, but the Hillary Bar match scheduled at The Corner Bar was postponed due to Loy Kratong.  A win by Hillary Bar will give them 2nd place on head-to-head with Pool 13.  A loss or draw by Hillary Bar will give Pool 13 2nd place.

Blue Division:  Sports Academy went into week 14 with a 1 point lead over New Wave.  Both teams won their week 14 matches.  Sports Academy takes first place and New Wave gets 2nd.

Green Division: Sports Corner and Sports 22 went into week 14 deadlocked at 20 points.  Sports 22 won its match, while Flaming Moe's at 3rd place proved the spoiler for Sports Corner.  Sports 22 takes first and Sports Corner takes 2nd.

Brown Division:  Hideaway Black finished strongly to win the division comfortably.  Larry's Left has a 1 point lead over On's Place, but On's place still has a make-up game to be played that will decide who gets 2nd.

9_news.png

The FALL 2008 season of the Bangkok Pool League is drawing to a close, with 1 more week left to play.  The standings in all four divisions of both 8-Ball and 9-Ball will be decided by next week's matches, with quite a bit yet to be determined.  Here is how the divisions stack up going into week 14.

9-BALL

RED DIVISION:  The PLAYERS(23 points) has a lock on first place.  HILLARY BAR(15 points), POOL 13(15 points), and METRO BAR(14 points) are all still alive for 2nd place.

BLUE DIVISION:  The SPORTS ACADEMY(21 points) and NEW WAVE(20 points) are in a battle for the divisional championship, with the loser getting 2nd place.

GREEN DIVISION:  The SPORTS CORNER and SPORTS 22 are both sitting on 20 points going into the last week.  First place might have to be decided by head-to-head or legs.

BROWN DIVISION:  HIDEAWAY BLACK(20 points) will win the division, but ON'S PLACE(15 points), LARRY'S DIVE LEFT(14 points) and The SPORTS BAR(13 points) are all still in the running for 2nd place.

9-BALL PLAYOFFS:  There will be no playoff for 9-Ball this season.  Trophies will be awarded to first and second place in each division.

8-BALL

RED DIVISION: METRO BAR(18 points) and 1 postponed match to make up, is in the drivers seat for first place.  DET 5 (16 points), OASIS 1 (16 points) and The SPORTS ACADEMY(15 points) are all still in the hunt going into the last week.

BLUE DIVISION: The PLAYERS (25 points) has first place nailed down.  BULLY PUB(16 points) has the edge over COUNTRY ROAD (14 points) for 2nd place.

GREEN DIVISION: HILLARY BAR (23 points) and NEW WAVE (23 points) are still fighting it out for first place.  The divisional champion may well be decided by head-to-head or legs.

BROWN DIVISION:  The CORNER BAR (23 points) has the divisional championship locked up.  OASIS 2 (17 points), The OLD OTHER OFFICE (16 points) and MOONSHINE (15 points) are still in the running for second place.

8-BALL PLAYOFFS:  The first and second place teams in each of the four divisions will compete in a playoff to determine a league champion.  The draw will be determined by coin toss, with 2 first place teams and 2 2nd place teams in each side of the draw.  The venue will be determined once the playoff teams have been decided.  All teams will be notified as to where and when.

SINGLES TOURNAMENT:  As always, the season will end with a singles tournament for both 8-Ball and 9-Ball.  All trophies and prizes will be handed out at this final send-off to the 2008 season.  The balance of the league revenue will be spent to make the event one not to miss.  The venue will be The BALL IN HAND on Sukhumvit Soi 4, and the date will be Saturday, December 6th for 8-Ball and Saturday, December 13th for 9-Ball.   All who have played in the Bangkok Pool League during the past season (8-Ball OR 9-Ball) are invited to attend both events.
