Hi!
Alan Bell available at Larry's dive again, come and see!
Will is now back from his sojourn to Laos, and we are starting to get caught up on the standings. Week 2's results are now in, and the shape of the divisional standings is starting to show. There are still some minor adjustments to be made, but we will eventually get it right. There are still some missing score sheets, which will explain why some teams results are not up to date. Once again, PLEASE try to get them in as soon as possible. I need them in by Friday afternoons in order to get the site updated in time for the week-end. Please also be reminded that the fax number is now 02-691-5149.
The new season has started rather well, and I have not had any problems to speak of. People are enjoying themselves, and there have also been some great matches. In 9-Ball last week, Hillary Bar brought 8 people in to The Players to face 8 of their players in a match that was not decided until 2-2 in the 8th match. Players pulled it out, 5-3. Moonshine came out of Larry's Dive with what would appear to be a lopsided 8-0 win. 5 of the matches went to 3-2, though, and in 3 cases Larry's Dive went up to a 2-0 lead before managing to pull out the loss. Dubliner and Hideaway Jack played to a 4-4 draw, but both team captains chose to play a decider rather than come away with a draw. Dubliner came away with the win. There were several draws on the week(7 out of the 17 games played), and also some lopsided victories that, in many cases, were not quite as one-sided as the score would indicate. In 9-Ball, which was designed more along competitive lines, there are only 5 teams that remain unbeaten and untied after only 2 weeks of play. Please remember to let me know if anything noteworthy happens during any of your matches so I can post it here in the future.
The Website: The hits to the site have literally doubled since the season began, and the visits are coming from close to 40 countries. The world seems to be watching. Please remember to visit this site at least once a week, as any changes, issues, etc will be posted here.
Registered Bars: Please also be reminded to register your bar on the site. Will is a most agreeable fellow, and can assist you with any logo you want to to put up. All it might take is a few free drinks.
Hello everyone!
Sorry about the late update to the standings, I was out of the country for a few days. And please don't laugh at me when you see me the next time, you know when leaving the Bangkok smog behind and getting into a cleaner air does havoc to you skin/sunburn if you are not careful
Sorry that the standings have not yet been updated here. Will is due back soon from his sojourn to Laos, so it should be done soon. As we have gone to 6 divisions in both 8-Ball and 9-Ball, the initial start-up is also a bit more cumbersome. Please bear with us.
The "Smoking" ban: A number of bars in the league have asked me how other bars are handling this. Am not sure if there is an official "Bar Owners" network for passing on information, but will gladly pass on any experiences regarding this to others. Just let me know.
Scoresheet collection: A reminder once again to please get the scoresheets in to me as soon as possible.
Photo Gallery: Please note that the Gallery is constantly being updated, and there are new pictures. Special thanks to Mac from Corner Bar, who seems to always have his camera with him. Everyone else is free to take some pictures at their matches and have them uploaded to this site.
WE'RE OFF! The spring 2008 season of the Bangkok Pool League got off to a pretty solid start last week. To my amazement, I did not receive a single phone call on either Monday or Wednesday night. Everybody knew where to go, who they were playing, and were comfortable enough with the rules to play out their matches. There were some interesting results. I will begin making more posts onto this board next week. Some monor problems were brought to my attention, and have been easily dealt with. If anything noteworthy happens during a match, either positive or negative, please let me know.
SPRING 2008 SEASON: We started off the season with 34 teams in both 8-Ball and 9-Ball. At one point, we had 36, which is why we opted for 6 divisions. We can still plug in 2 more teams in each. We are also constantly living with the possibility that a team might forfeit out or have a problem fielding a team. If anyone knows of a bar that might want to play, please let me know.
CURRENT STANDINGS: My apologies for the standings not yet being loaded onto the site. The scoresheets were slow in coming in. I now have all but 1, but Will, the site administrator, is not yet back from an upcountry swing. They should be on soon...possibly later today.
SCORE SHEETS: For the record, here is what must be done to get the stats uploaded onto this site every week. Charlie, my Internet Guru, created a worksheet for me for the entire season. Once I get the scoresheets, I have to enter all of the results onto the correct weekly spreadsheet. Once that is done, I send it off to Charlie. He enters the information onto a different worksheet that puts all the scores and standings in order. He then sends it off to Will, for posting to the site. If I have everything done by friday afternoon, the information usually makes it on in time for the week-end. At noon this past Friday, I was still missing 5 score sheets for 8-Ball and 7 for 9-Ball. In terms of scoresheet collection, the earlier you can get them to me, the easier and faster it will be.
FAX NUMBER: There were apparrently some problems last week with the faxing of scoresheets to Larry's Dive. Paper jams, etc. If there is a problem going forward, try faxing them directly to Charlie at 02-691-5149.
REGISTERED BARS: This is a reminder to all of the bars in the league that they can and should register to this sight. Just send the request in to Will. Feel free to post any information you want about your bar, and you can also use your logo.
