START-UP OF SPRING 2008 POOL LEAGUE PDF Print
Written by Mark D
Tuesday, 15 January 2008

The Bangkok Pool League Organizing Committee met last night, and we are planning to begin the Spring 2008 season in the first week of February.  8-Ball will start on Monday, February 4th, and 9-Ball will start on Wednesday, February 6th.  Both seasons will last 10 weeks, followed by playoffs.  I will be contacting all of the participating bars this week to get a firm and final decision on the number of teams they will be fielding in 8-Ball and 9-Ball.  I plan to begin drawing up the schedule this week-end.  If anyone is still on the fence about fielding a team, please let me know ASAP.  I can be reached through this site or at 081-625-7657.  Here is what we are looking at so far:

8-BALL  Last season we had 24 teams(3 8-team divisions).  This season we have 32 teams, and will go with 6 6-team divisions.  If a division is short, interdivisional play will make up the difference.

9-BALL    Last season we had 28 teams(4 7-team divisions).  This season we have 33 teams, and will go with 6 6-team divisions. If a division is short, interdivisional play will make up the difference.

CAPTAINS MEETINGS   Prior to the start of the season, we will hold Captains meetings.  The purpose of the meetings is to go over the rules and make sure everyone is ready for the start of the season.  We will hand out copies of the team listings, schedules, Scoresheets, 8-Ball rules, 9-Ball rules and procedural rules.  Every team captain must attend at least one of the 3 meetings, and it would be better if some regular players can attend as well.  There are 12 new participating bars, and it is important that they know and understand how the league works.  Any and all questions can be answered at the meetings.

The first meeting will be at the SPORTS CORNER, on Sukhumvit Soi 20, about 50 meters on the right side of the Soi.  It will be held on Monday January 28th at 7:00 PM.  The 2nd meeting will be at The HOUR GLASS, just off Soi 22 in the subsoi by Larry's Dive.  It is about 100 meters from Sukhumvit on the right side.  The meeting will be on Wednesday, January 30th at 7:00 PM.  The 3rd meeting will be held at HILLARY BAR, Sukhumvit Soi 11.  It is on the left side of soi 11, just past the Grand President.  The meeting there will be on Saturday at 4:00 PM.  Once again, appearance in at least one of these meetings is manditory.  The first drink will be on the house!

MID-SEASON TOURNAMENT  This season, we will be scheduling a mid-season team tournament. Participation is optional, but it will be free to all who play.  People can sign up as a team, or we can create a team for any interested singles.  One of the purposes is to try out a new format for the league.  We expect it to be informal, fun, and a way to meet other league players.
