Hello everyone! The 8-Ball season-ending Singles Tournament was held last Saturday. It proved to be a fitting end to the season(see recap below). There is still one more event left before the Bangkok Pool League takes some time off before resuming again next year. The 9-Ball Season-Ending Singles Tournament will take place this Saturday, December 8th. The venue once again will be the Ball In Hand at the Times Square location. We are asking everyone interested in playing to please be there by 1:30 so we can complete the draw in time for a 2:00 PM start. The draw is expected to approach 128. Everyone who has played in either the 8-Ball or 9-Ball League this season is invited to attend. We anticipate giving out over 80 door prizes to those who can make it to the event, whether they are there to compete or just watch. We will also be handing out all of the trophies for the past Fall 2007 9-Ball season. Heres how the season ended up, and all teams in bold print will be receiving trophies. FINAL STANDINGS FOR 2007 9-BALL SEASON GOLD DIVISION Newcomer RACK EM UP finished first in a competitively tough division. They were pressed hard in the playoffs by a determined Roadhouse team, but eventually came out on top in a match that had to be decided by a tiebreaker. METRO BAR A was the winner of the plate. SILVER DIVISION HIDEAWAY JACK finished first in the division, dropping just 1 match well after they thay had clinched the division. They got caught by HAPPINESS KRAP in the playoffs, though, in a tough match. TOKYO JOE'S was the winner of the plate. RED DIVISION Newcomer BULLY'S PUB finished first in the division. They ran into a motivated HAPPINESS KA team in the playoffs, though, and Happiness Ka was able to pull the upset off in a competitive match that was not decided until the final game. POPEYES was the winner of the plate. BLUE DIVISION HIDEAWAY BLACK finished first in the division, and had to withstand a serious challenge from Metro bar B in a playoff final that had to be decided by a tiebreaker. CRAZY HOT, led by 2 former Wooken Spoon winners, was the winner of the plate. THE 8-BALL SEASON-ENDING TOURNAMENT The tournament this past Saturday, December 1st, was designed to be a competitive tournament played within a party atmosphere. I think those that came by would all agree we pulled it off. 121 people showed up, with 84 taking part in the draw. 14 people who played only in the 9-Ball League showed up to play. I would like to pay a special thanks to Corner Bar, Happiness, Hillary Bar, Salute, Moonshine, Flaming Moe's, newcomers Rack Em Up and Sports Corner, Hideaway, Metro Bar(who did not field an 8-Ball team) and The Players for coming in "strong" with 7 or more people. A large contingent stuck it out to watch the finals. Only 2 bars failed to show at all. The league donated 54 bottles of wine and liquor to the event, and the participating bars added an additional 31 prizes to bring it up to 85 door prizes. Thanks go to our sponsor, The Ball In Hand, for donating a pool cue to the prize list. Special thanks also to Bully's Pub for donating a huge smoked ham to the free buffet. The draw got a bit confusing due to our attempts to accommodate those that showed up at the last minute. Our apologies, though it certainly did not sem to affect the level of play. The final 4 were John(Corner bar), Darren(Det 5A), Ben(Rack Em Up) and Paul(The Players). Ben and Paul made it on to the finals, with Paul coming out on top in a great match worthy of a final. Darren defeated John for 3rd place in a match that was noteworthy, as both Darren and John shared trophies for being the most inibriated at the event. Only in Bangkok. THE PICTURE GALLERY For those that may not have yet noticed, new photos have recently been uploaded to the gallery . More will be added after completion of the 9-Ball singles tournament. If anyone has any pictures that they would like to put on the site, please get in touch with Will. HAPPY HOLIDAYS On behalf of everyone involved with the league, I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a safe and happy holiday season. We would also like to thank everyone for making the league work so well. We anticipate starting up again in mid to late January. I will keep posting on this site as a starting date draws near. If anyone knows of a bar or group of people that might want to field a team in the spring 2008 season or simply a pool player looking for a "home" please let me know. |
